RYA Training Programme 2011

Welcome to the 2011 season and our training programme for this year. In response to members requests we are offering a couple of new courses this year, all designed to improve your skills and enable you to make the most of the Club sailing programme.

Start Sailing Level 1 , 14th and 21st May - Our beginners course for adults and juniors follows our Try Sailing Day on 02 May. If you have friends who would like to learn to sail then this course is for them. Book now since this course fills up very quickly!

Safety Boat 4th and 5th June - Excellent two days improving your power boat skills with Steve Kitchen (you must hold Power Boat Level 2 already) teaching you how to recover lost boats and sailors. Only 6 places available

Start Racing 2 days date TBD - To give non-racing members the skills and confidence to come club racing. Next step up from basic RYA Levels.

OnBoard - 18th June to 10th July - Our annual OnBoard course for local schoolchildren this year runs on three Saturdays and one Sunday with 12 places available. For juniors only and priority goes to designated schools but there may be places available.

Power Boat Level 2, 30th and 31st July - Our second Power Boat course and last opportunity this year to qualify.

Start Sailing Level 1, 2nd and 3rd August Our second beginner’s course for adults and juniors makes a great start to the school holidays. Very popular with parents and children learning a new skill together, or for those returning to sailing after a break.

Start Sailing Level 2/3, 22nd to 24th August - A new course for 2011 included by popular demand and designed to improve your skills from the basic level. This takes place over three days of our holiday week so book your time off now- and bring your tent!

RYA First Aid , 8th and 9th October An essential one day course for everyone, not just instructors and coaches. Best summed up in the words of one of last years graduates, President of Rhyl Yacht Club Bill Newton, ”....what a cracking day’s learning!”. You will need to know the words to ’Nellie the Elephant’.. ask Rudy why!

  • You must be a club member to enrol on our courses but we welcome anyone who wishes to join on the day; membership rates are available here.
  • Our courses are conducted by our team of RYA qualified instructors, all of whom are volunteers who give freely of their time and energy. We will always endeavour to run courses as published but sometimes changes can occur.
  • Last but not least - book early to avoid disappointment!

All sailing courses are very competitively priced at £30 per day; Power Boat and First Aid courses are £25 each, all with certification costs included. For all other information including timings, course details, publications etc.. please contact David Waltho at:
