Chelsea Jackson Shows Class to Lead The Tangerine Machine
Chelsea Jackson stepped up to Laser 4.7 for the first time in a major event, for the Welsh Volvo Youth and Junior Championships at Pwllheli. Taking on ’10 ft holes’ in the water, Chelsea was the first girl and second overall, beating fellow team mate Rudy Chadwick Smith, who finished a credible 10th (In the oldest boat in the fleet!). Fellow sailors did the club proud in testing conditions for all. Inshore in the quieter waters of the bay, in the Optimist Regatta Fleet, Ellie Williams finished in fifth following a fiercely fought battle with Jack Shepherd, who finished in eighth. In Topper training fleet Delihlah Chadwick Smith finished sixth. Back out in the boat swallowing big stuff, big sister Nellie finished thirteenth in Topper main fleet, which included a fantastic second in one race. In the Optimist main fleet Charlotte Watson finished thirty first, with her little brother Alex in thirty sixth. Another record for the Brenig Youth and Juniors with 8 boats out for this event.
Chelsea Steps Up
After good wind on the Saturday, Sunday proved to be much lighter, Light variable winds made for tricky racing conditions. Three races were held for the Bala Junior Open Trophy. The fleet was mixed from Bala, Gresford and Brenig consisting of Topper, Laser and Laser 4.7 as well as a Mirror Dinghy totalling 9 boats. Lack of wind, massive shifts and strange gusts made for entertaining racing in the Morning, the afternoon was more settled. Chelsea managed second overall after only her second time in her new dinghy.

Brenig Juniors Turn Out in Force
Llyn Brenig Juniors took to the water in record numbers, for the first North Wales Onboard Festival, at Bala sailing club. We arrived to a misty, murky day which soon lifted to deliver bright outlook and a steady wind. The Optimist Training Fleet was won by Brenig Junior Jack Shepherd, followed by Tom Hollingsworth, with Ellie Williams completing a Brenig hat-trick. Eddie Holley finished a credible sixth after the four race series. Continuing on the Optimist theme Charlotte Watson finished in fifth place in Optimist Gold Fleet and enjoyed fun on the water with team mate Nellie Chadwick Smith, who sailed Optimist competitively for the first time! Alex Watson took home a nice piece of slate, for third place in Optimist Silver Fleet.
Our new topper sailors Hamish Mayall and Delihlah Chadwick Smith represented Brenig in the Topper Silver Fleet, finishing 6th and 7th respectively. They may also have learnt that it’s best not to swap boats mid event! Chelsea Jackson sailing a Laser 2000 took the General Handicap 1st prize in style, having teamed up with Bala sailor James Guinan.
The day was capped off with another nice piece of slate, as the club took third place overall.
